River Table style Wood Coaster Sets. These wooden coaster sets make an ideal Wedding Gift or New Home Gift so if your friends are getting married or you’re looking for a housewarming gift, these are awesome for that.!
Each order is a set of 4 coasters with an assortment of random colors for the resin river. The colors include green, blue, or purple. I used high-quality 1/2-inch tall Poplar wood for each wood coaster. and they are just under 4″ square.
Each coaster was cut to size and then a randomly drawn set of lines was cut using a router to create a natural-looking river of resin. After sanding, the rivers were poured with one of 3 colors of sparkly chameleon mica powders; blue, green/teal, and purple/plum )with some slight overlap in the colors on a few pieces where the resin colors met together). Once the resin had cured, the edges were sanded down on all 4 upper sides of each coaster to make a slightly rounded edge. Next, I applied a torch to each coaster to create a smoothed-out rustic burned look. To protect the coasters, I put two layers of polyurethane on the sides and tops and after they had dried, I added another sealer coat to the tops.
The final step was to apply small, flat cork squares to the bottom corners of each coaster. This cork will help elevate the coaster off your table and help reduce the chance of the wood scratching your surfaces.
These coasters should be water-resistant since the tops have been coated with multiple layers. You should be able to hand wash the tops with a wet rag. Don’t throw these in the dishwasher or put incredibly hot items on the coasters. While the resin has a high melting point and the polyurethane should protect the wood, high temps may cause eventual rings, as it can wear down the strength of the sealant.
